Interview: Director Chris Weitz reveals all

HitFix just posted a great (and I mean GREAT) interview with New Moon director Chris Weitz, where he talks about the production and filming of New Moon:

Q: Just to follow that up, can you tell us how far along you are to completion right now?

I am about two weeks away from showing the director's cut to the studio. I've got some wolves with fur. Some wolves are still invisible basically and some wolves are like -- you've all probably seen the claymation versions. We are still in the light RD phases of what Edward looks like when he's hit -- what the vampires look like when he's hit with light and the diamond effect. Also, the kind of hallucinatory effect Bella has when she hears Edward's voice and she imagines him there. And then we are Alexandre Desplat has just started working on his music for the film. And we are just starting to put together what acts will be on the soundtrack, so it's kind of like keeping ten plates spinning at once, but it's all good because we've got Alexander Desplat who I think is one of the greatest film composers living and because of the kind of the strength of the franchise that I inherited, a lot of bands are really interested in working on the soundtrack and we got visual effects people. And that just leaves me hopefully not dropping the ball in terms of editing together the story.

Q: Can you tell us about the proposal scene at the end of the book? Fans are worried that it's either been altered or cut out of the film. Can you address those concerns?

They haven't been cut out. I can tell you that much. It's not going to hit them the exact way they think it's going to, but I will say -- how can I put it? It's going to be quite special. I could have saved all of my gusto for that moment. I don't think it will disappoint.

LA Times On the Set of New Moon + New Movie Still

Los Angeles Times recently posted a short article with more details on the filming of New Moon:

Reporting from Vancouver, Canada -- Robert Pattinson is having an Obi-Wan Kenobi moment. Inside a soundstage where "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" is shooting, the lanky English heartthrob stands in front of a tall, wide green screen murmuring a tender admonition, "You promised me nothing reckless." Motion capture cameras hurtle toward him across a length of track affixed to the stage floor, while a team of technicians studies his stance and the tilt of his head.

The plan is to digitally insert Pattinson, who plays swoony good guy vampire Edward Cullen, into a scene that was filmed much earlier -- one in which he appears as a spectral vision to his costar, Kristen Stewart, cautioning her headstrong character, Bella Swan, against hanging out with some unsavory-looking biker types. For the effect to work, Pattinson's image will need to be dropped in at exactly the right position, so despite the cast and crew nearing the end of a very long early May day, perfectionism is still the standard.

I know I've said this a thousand times already, but I can't wait for New Moon! I have a feeling it might be even better than Twilight.

Clevver TV on Eclipse and Breaking Dawn

Here's a short video clip from Clevver TV, where they discuss New Moon and Eclipse production, and when the shooting of Breaking Dawn will begin. Nothing here we haven't heard before really; Summit Entertainment has still not confirmed they are making Breaking Dawn (though Robert Pattinson has said before that BD will be made, and he is committed to starring in it. More about that HERE) and Eclipse will begin shooting August 17 (only a month from now!).

Interview: Christopher Heyerdahl Reveals New Moon Details

Christopher Heyerdahl, who plays Volturi vampire Marcus, revelas details on New Moon in this new interview with SciFiWire.

Heyerdahl's character is a member of the Volturi, a venerable coven of vampires based in Volterra, Italy, whose members also include Michael Sheen and Dakota Fanning.

"He's one of the oldest vampires on the planet, and who doesn't want to play a 3,000-year-old vampire?" Heyerdahl said. "The cast that I get to work with, like Michael Sheen. ... We had so much fun goofing off together. It was an absolute hoot. Director Chris Weitz's version for this piece is like a Renaissance painting. The images were absolutely beautiful, and the character is such a tragic old fellow."

[...]Heyerdahl—who has worn extensive makeup and prosthetics for some of his roles —said that the makeup required in New Moon to transform him into one of the undead was easy by comparison.

"Yeah, they do their best to suck the life out of you, but certainly nothing compared to any of those past prosthetics," Heyerdahl said. "From that perspective, it was pretty easy. The looks they are getting in this film are absolutely fantastic. Everyone looks gorgeous and deliciously lifeless."

Kellan is looking forward to future Twi-movies

Kellan talks about New Moon and encountering fans in this short interview with TwistOnline, and also mentions that he is looking forward to Eclipse and Breaking Dawn. Excerpt:

On what to look forward to in NM:
"Something to really look forward to is Jackson Rathbone's scene when he's playing Jasper, and Bella cuts her finger at her birthday party. He really loses himself there. He really transformed himself and got there, so it was really cool to see. And I think the fans will really like to see that and be surprised with how fierce he looked and got."

On continuing to play Emmett:
"Emmett has quite a larger role with Eclipse and then Breaking Dawn, so I'm really excited to shoot Eclipse coming up soon and then hopefully Breaking Dawn!

Michael Welch dishes on Edward's part in NM

In this new interview with MTV, Michael Welch, playing Mike Newton in the movies, talks about how Edward actually will have a bigger part in the movie than he has in the book (is this great news, or what!?). Excerpt:

"They figured out a very clever way to get Edward back in the film much more than he is in the book," revealed "Twilight" series star Michael Welch when he stopped by the MTV studios recently, acknowledging that Weitz and screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg have devised a plan to work around the "New Moon" plot — which has Edward breaking up with Bella (Kristen Stewart) early in the story and fleeing to Italy. "It's more of, like, a hallucination kind of thing."

As any good Twilighter knows, Bella is heartbroken by their breakup but slowly begins dealing with her Edward-less existence through the realization that dangerous activities — motorcycle riding, cliff diving, etc. — cause her to hear the sexy vampire's voice in her head. Welch was fascinated by Stewart's pretend hallucinations on set and explained to us that Weitz intends to insert sequences of her seeing Edward as "New Moon" inches closer to its November 20 release date.

"It's tricky," he said of the filmmaker's dilemma. "I mean, [Edward] leaves for months."

"In the book, she just hears his voice," continued Welch, who plays rival Bella pursuer Mike Newton in the movies. "In the film, it's more of like a hallucination kind of thing. He will be [in the movie more than the book] for sure."

I don't know about you, but I'm not a very big fan of the whole dubbing thing. Most of these sound pretty weird to me, and I really don't see what's wrong with simply using subtitles like we do here (in Norway). I mean, as ROBsessed puts it; why would ANYONE dub over Rob? Why? That said, I think the French one sounded the best. How about you?

New Moon Movie Book Cover!

Finally some "real" twi-news: The new cover is out! ET gives us an exclusive look at the new New Moon movie tie-in book cover, and reports:

Attention Team Jacob: Little, Brown has revealed their cover for the movie tie-in edition of New Moon, which features an exclusive image from the Twilight Taylor Lautner fans should certainly pick up more than a few copies (Those arms! That smoldering stare! Remember, he's only 17!). As for Team Edward...well, at least the image proves that the moon is not, in fact, made of green cheese. franchise's second film.

Update: Twilight Lexicon tweets that this edition will be out in bookstores September 15:

What do I think? Well, no matter what, I will always love the original covers the most, and I'll probably always feel more attached to the books than to any of the movies (I think. I'm pretty sure). Twilight Stars Reveal Key 'New Moon' Scenes

The Twilight/New Moon cast reveales secrets on the filming of New Moon in an interview with MTV! Snippet of it:

"There's definitely a difference in scale," marveled Robert Pattinson when we caught up with him recently. "I liked doing 'Twilight,' but it felt very much like an indie movie — and ['New Moon'] definitely feels like it's a big movie."

"Kristen [Stewart] and Taylor [Lautner] had to lobby to get this one scene in the film that wasn't originally in — and I am forever indebted to them for that," revealed Mike Welch, citing a beloved moment from Stephenie Meyer's "New Moon" novel. "There's a scene that's in the book, the three-way date between Jacob and Bella and Mike, where Mike ends up getting sick, and it's just very awkward."

"We did a lot of improv on set," Lautner said. "We'd just be in a random forest and, after Jacob transforms [into a wolf], he all of a sudden becomes very agile, and I wanted to show that, because pre-transformation, he's clumsy. But as soon as he transforms, he's agile. So we'd be in a random forest, and I'd be looking around going, 'What can I do to show Jacob's agility in here?' [...]

The immensely popular "New Moon" trailer gives us a peek at Lautner's athleticism. It also gives us our first look at the infamous birthday scene — a moment that actor Jackson Rathbone had been eager to shoot ever since he landed the role of anguished vampire Jasper Hale.

"He unleashed the madness; it was crazy," Peter Facinelli remembered of the day when Rathbone finally got to display his inner animal and attack Kristen Stewart's Bella. "It took me and Kellan — non-acting — to hold him back."

Twilight's Blue Tint vs Golden Tint in New Moon

NewMoonMovie:

The New Moon trailer and recently released stills from the movie have revealed that New Moon will not have the same blue tint that Twilight did. I’ve made the image above which roughly approximates the old Twilight look on one half of an image from New Moon and keeps the other side as it will be in the movie.

How do you feel about this change–do you think it is for the best, or do you wish it still had the icy tones of the original movie instead of the new golden look?

I think the golden tint looks good. Although the blue tint from Twilight was great too, I feel like the golden tint fits better with New Moon, what with the werewolves being more prominent than the vampires in this movie. What about you?
